- For most of you, you will continue teaching Ancient Egypt as before, for 80% of this topic.
- You MUST give pupils a sense of overview of all the named ancient civilizations mentioned “where and when the first civilizations appeared” (Indus Valley, Ancient Sumer, Shang dynasty China).
- This overview is best to come at the end of the topic to answer the question, so was Egypt the only major civilisation at this time? Challenge pupils to see if they can spot what they have in common.
- If you teach this as your first KS2 topic then be sure to refer back to it when you study Stone Age to Iron Age, stressing that Britain was not such a developed civilisation.
- Whilst you might initially want to carry on with Ancient Egypt in detail, as good resources and ideas start being developed you may want to change in a few years’ time.
