This introductory session starts with firing pupils’ curiosity via a slow reveal in which pupils build a picture of her by means of a series of clues introduced in a structured way. Pupils then complete a jigsaw information run in which they find answers to specific broader questions about the reasons for her fame before consolidating this by actively viewing a short video excerpt.

Step 1

Explain that the new focus is on a very famous woman, but why is she so famous? Pupils are introduced via the KQ1 PowerPoint to a series of animated clues which become increasingly revealing. What can the children work out from the clues? At this stage we are simply looking to engage pupils’ attention and interest as well as reinforcing the idea of history being like detective work building on clues.
