
Starting with a contemporary cartoon analysis, which hints at highly relevant current life-style related health problems that still have not been eliminated, pupils explore some of the health hazards today using a gallery of images which pupils have to analyse in groups of three. They have to identify what the message behind each clue is and then decide whether it suggests improvement or regress.

- Pupils can pinpoint at least 3 ways in which public health improved in the last century
- They can cite 2 ways in which public health, for some, has deteriorated
- They can link this to current debate e.g. obesity drugs
- They can form a balanced judgment about pros and cons.
- They learn to infer meaning from political cartoons.
