1. Give praise

Give praise wherever possible e.g. when you see evidence that your colleagues have:
• Inspired pupils
• Created high quality displays
• Produced thoughtful planning
• Taken the initiative to organise visits and find resources
A complimentary comment such as, ”I was talking to some infants in the playground about their history topic and you’ve really got them fired up. I’ve never seen them so enthusiastic” works wonders.

2. Provide professional development

Provide colleagues with relevant professional development or training on or off site. Don’t always assume that courses are there to act as some sort of sheep-dip. Most people who return from days focussed on one subject return full of ideas and revved up.

3. Plan together

Wherever possible, use the chance you have to plan alongside year teams to spark their interest and to feed in lots of inspiring ideas at the point of need.
