A study of Greek life and achievements and their influence on the western world

  1. With its emphasis squarely on the achievements and legacy of the Greeks, this topic is much more suitable for pupils in Y5/6 than Y3/4.
  2. There are very strong cross-curricular links with this unit, not least with mathematics, geography and art.
  3. It is probably best to focus most on the Golden Age of Athens in 5th century BC but the additional emphasis on chronology in the 2014 curriculum makes it advisable to look at a span of time in overview from the Trojan Wars to Alexander the Great.
  4. There should be at least two key questions exploring what was unique about the Ancient Greeks and why their legacy is so important to our lives today.
