Many of you have been asked to include in your long term planning evidence of coverage of specific historical concepts, such as the ones listed in the National Curriculum (2014) and re-iterated by OFSTED in their 2021 review.
This has been given higher status by OFSTED in this review to the point where they state that a high quality history education is achieved when:
- pupils are supported to learn new content by meaningful examples and understanding of the specific historical context that makes ideas and concepts more familiar.
- Pupils have repeated encounters with a wide range of important concepts in a number of different contexts.
- Teaching emphasises some content and concepts for direct and explicit teaching, but it also ensures wide-ranging opportunities for incidental
- Teachers and curriculum designers recognise the crucial role of contextual and background information in learning new material.
- Pupils encounter rich stories and contextual
