When deciding how EYFS might contribute to pupils’ understanding of the past, it is important that we don’t overcomplicate matters or be too ambitious too soon. So getting the right, sharp, focus is key.
The accompanying diagram neatly summarises what you and your colleagues in EYFS should be focusing on. Please share it with your EYFS team and alert them to the resources that already exist on the site e.g. Nursery rhymes, as well as the brand-new unit called On the Move which takes the youngest children on a journey from their own bikes to those of others in the family, to looking at grandparents bikes when they were young. It then broadens out to looking at other forms of transport, then and now.
