Working as Emperor Claudius, with Y3 pupils as my advisers on conscience alley

Great to get backing teaching on Wednesday. With a lively class of 35 Year 3 in Hounslow who took on the Mantle of Expert as advisers to the Emperor Claudius (me as Teacher-in-role), we first looked at Caesar’s efforts and then thought what we could learn from that experience. I then did my best impersonation of Claudius, with stutter, dribbles and yes, the runny noose and weak knees too so that pupils could relate better to me and could feel as if they were my beguine advisers. Having researched the various arguments using the lesson on the website, we then went into te playground and performed a conscience alley activity which they did really well and were incredibly sensible and well-informed advisers. I then pronounced my decision which unleashed a number of pleas to get me to change my mind. back in the classroom pupils completed tow giant speech bubbles coming from the mouth of Claudius explaining his motivation, which many did with surprising subtlety.
