Greater variation in GCSE history marking than nearly every other subject, says OFQUAL

And now it’s official! Marking of GCSE history examinations is prone to greater variation than virtually every other subject- greater even than English Literature. As you can see from the accompanying image produced by OFQUAL on 5 March, there is an alarming difference in consistency of marking the lower down the table you go. You don’t need to know how this table was created but it is explained on their blog. What you DO NEED to be aware of is the finding.There is only a 50% chance that two markers will give the same script the same grade.
