A level history results 2014

Now that the dust has settled a little I thought it helpful to put last week’s A level results in perspective. Here are a few useful comparative statistics
1. Entries were up, placing history in the top 5 subjects, just slightly behind chemistry
2. There was a slight dip in the number of A*s. Overall 5.5% achieved the top grade
3. There was also a significant drop in the numbers of A*-B, falling from 56.3 to 53.1
4. There continues to be unacceptable variation in quality of marking, and between papers within the same exam. board.
When will we ever have ‘a level’ playing field?
